COURSE OVERVIEW

The Equality and Diversity Elearning Course helps to explain research outputs in relation to staff circumstances and explore this REF 2021 in more detail.

Since the original REF 2014, there have been a raft of extensive changes to how research outputs are calculated, how outputs are selected and the new requirements to document how Equity, Equality, Diversity and Transparency are embedded within every step of the REF submission process.

This Equality and Diversity Elearning Course is designed to introduce staff that are either directly involved in the committees and groups set up to facilitate the university’s submission to REF 2021,as well as those wishing to learn more about the REF 2021 and the impact our hidden biases may have on our decision making.

The Equality and Diversity Elearning Course uses media-rich graphics interactions, quizzes and scenarios to engage learners and motivate them to understand the major changes to the REF submission process and how their unconscious biases can implicitly influence university staff member’s careers, the university’s reputation and the wider research community.

By the end of this course, learners will be confident about –

  • The new processes and documentation required for the 2021 REF submission,
  • Why equality and diversity are important to the ref,
  • How to calculate the research outputs for eligible staff,
  • What circumstances can be considered when reducing individual staff outputs
  • The impact of unconscious biases on decision making
  • The legal context
  • And the universities code of practice and equality impact analysis.
