Cultural Competency for Students: Living and Studying in the UK
COURSE OVERVIEW
Tailored specifically for international students to help them adjust to life in the UK.
Written in partnership with Sunderland University, this eLearning course is tailored specifically for international students to help them adjust to life in the UK and provide insights into what they can expect from living and studying in the country.
This course will introduce you to key features of UK culture. You may find that some things are very different here, in comparison with your home country, and we hope that this information will help you to prepare for your stay in the UK, and to get the best out of both your university course and your overall experience.
This course is divided into five units where you will learn about:
- UK values
- Language and communication
- Social customs
- Study and academic culture
- Staying safe
Learning Objectives
- Explain the terms Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging.
- Describe the ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of the UK.
- Reflect on the UK Equality law and national attitudes as they apply to Age, Sexuality, Gender, and Disability.
- List the languages spoken in the UK and understand the style and common slang terms.
- Describe what is meant by āCulture shockā and describe the different cultural customs common in the UK.
- Apply the academic expectations of UK universities and colleges.
- List the ways you can stay safe in the UK and how to get help if you need it.
Course Duration
This course takes about 20 minutes to complete. Learners have the option to bookmark progress and complete the course in chunks.
Learning by design
This highly interactive elearning course is designed with rich graphics and audio-visual content, blending a variety of question-types to encourage your learners to apply concepts to their daily work routine.
An optional end-of-course test assesses learners on the level of knowledge theyāve retained. Pass rates can be set as required.
