Demystifying Elearning

28th March 2013

Earlier this month our CEO, David Marshall and Simon Gosney of NHS Direct spoke at a CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) event in Euston, Central London.

Here’s what he told us about the day:

“I was delighted to be invited to speak with my colleague Simon Gosney of NHS Direct at this recent CIPD event. Our core message was that we often see organisations stumble and hesitate in their use of e-learning as they want everything to be perfect first time – we are advocates of testing training in the marketplace and making constant improvements in line with customer feedback.

As we talked through the process, we offered a four-step essential guide to getting started with e-learning:

1. Subject matter expert

2. Instructional designer

3. Authorware tool (allows organisations to write their own e-learning)

4. A learning management system

Our presentation looked at strategies for making e-learning more engaging for the audience. For some, e-learning is a click exercise with a quiz at the end, but if the content is written in a lively and thought-provoking style it can add real value. For example, a high compliance rate supported by e-learning can help companies to win new contracts and e-learning can be deployed to solve business problems too.

We had a lively discussion and enjoyed demystifying the subject for our audience rather than blinding them with consultant speak!”
